Waltham is four miles from Cleethorpes, which means most guests drive past it without knowing it’s there. That’s a shame, because the windmill is one of the more striking things in the area — six sails, fully restored, still capable of milling on the right day.
It’s a working mill and heritage site rather than a tourist attraction in the commercial sense, which means it hasn’t been polished into something it isn’t. You can walk around the outside for free. The surrounding village is quiet and well-kept. There are a couple of pubs nearby if you want to extend the afternoon. The whole thing takes about ninety minutes at a relaxed pace.
Worth going on a day when you want something genuinely local rather than something designed for visitors. Kids old enough to find history interesting will get something from it.
